Exploring the Streets and Shopping

Today is my third day here and I finally feel happy, excited and comfortable to walk around the streets and go shopping by myself.  I've bought my first set of groceries and was pleasantly surprised by the large selection of gluten-free and dairy-free options that are not that much more expensive.  One thing I notice while shopping was that all the toiletries are very small sizes, no bigger than 400 mL so I guess I will have to go out a few times to replenish!  It's amazing to see the different flavors of foods too such as chips, cold cuts, and drinks.  I can't think of any off the top of my head but some sounded very unpleasant to an American.  My go-to supermarket is definitely going to be Dunnes!  It's a bit farther than Tesco but Dunnes is cleaner and has a better selection for me.  I'm within a 10 minute walk to Steven's Green, and their shopping center as well so yesterday I went there and bought a SIM card for my phone that I unlocked before I left the US.  The plans here are a lot more convenient, I pay 20 euros for 30 days of 10c/min to another provider in the EU, 15c/minute for international calls, and free calls to anyone with the same provider (Meteor).  If I don't pay the next month then i just can't call anyone, simple and no secret charges, I like! Also TK Maxx is way better than TJ Maxx!  Same store just the selection is so much better than in the US!  I'll be going there for almost anything I need as far as clothing and hair products for sure.
All of the buildings are no taller than 5 stories!  It's very different to be in such a central city that is so spread out!  I plan to walk most places I go because I live so close to work and shopping.  The buses seem to be the most effective way to travel throughout Dublin City, charging at the most 3 Euros.  Everyone I've encountered has been very friendly to me, hopefully it stays that way!
Oh and in Stevens Shopping area it's all only foot traffic, one could compare it to a larger version of Quincy Market in Boston. So there are lots of street performers, young kids and some adults playing music and such.  I'll attach a video of one I saw yesterday.
I'll try and keep up on this blog the best I can.  My first day of work is tomorrow and my online classes start on Tuesday so I'm not too sure how busy I will be.
